Sunday

We had a great service on Sunday.

  • We are still in our teaching series called core. I preached on our mission.
  • We had two additions. A brother and sister who have been coming for the last month...Thank you Jesus.
  • We showed a 1 minute video about our military. Started our service off remembering our service men and women who have given their life for our country. We had a special prayer for our military men and women currently serving.
  • A family came up to me and asked about getting plugged into a Lifegroup.
  • Before and after the service there was just excitement. I think everyone is getting to know each other better and building stronger friendships.

And The Wait Continues...

No announcement yet on the new location. I have to get the final green light from a regional manager. He is out of town somewhere and I expect to get a call Monday or Tuesday.

I'm currently on a small Oklahoma and Texas Journey. I had a meeting at Bogard Press in Texarkana yesterday. Marnie and her family are driving into the metropolis of Clinton, Arkansas this evening. So I spent the night in Little Rock last night and am waiting to meet them in Clinton later tonight.

I'm super excited about Sunday. I'm preaching on our mission. I like how it says it here too. If we know our mission I think that will go along way in making sure we carry out our mission.

Lifepoint Balloon Travel

We had an event Saturday at an apartment complex. One thing I left off my post about the event was that we gave out some balloons filled with helium that had our church name on them. They also had a Lifepoint invite card tied to the ribbon. Well, you know what happens when you give kids balloons outside...that's right, some of them go to outer space...or at least up, up into the sky. I would guess I saw around 20 balloons take flight.

Well, check this out. I opened my email tonight and I received an email from a family in Locust Grove, Oklahoma telling me they got one of our balloons. That is crazy! First of all - it's hard to imagine that a balloon would go that far - not to mention the possibility that someone would actually find it. Even more amazing - someone took the time to shoot me an email about it...amazing!!

Here's a map so you can also be awed by the Lifepoint balloon travel.

Sunday

Sunday morning we were back to our series - Core. I taught on the core value of Biblical Authority. Both families that came for the first time the week before were back. No fire alarms went off. That is always good.

Sunday evening we met at the Johnson's house. We had a cookout and to talked about moving to a new location for our Sunday service. We voted to make the move. If everything goes as planned we will start meeting at the new location on June 29th.

I know some people are anxious to know the new location. I will talk to the manager of the new facility tomorrow. Hopefully everything will get reserved and I will make the announcement tomorrow.

Cookout At Apartment Complex

Saturday from noon - 2:00 p.m. we hosted a cookout for an apartment complex in Owasso. It was awesome... The apartment complex management told us to expect somewhere around 300 people. I would say we had at least 200 people come out and maybe quite a bit more. We rented a 20 foot slide, a moon bounce, and a 52 foot obstacle course for the kids. It was a great way for our church to go out and meet people where they are. We invited a lot of families to Lifepoint, and took advantage of several opportunities to share the gospel.

Sunday

It was the first Mother's Day at Lifepoint. Here are some of highlights:

  • The fire alarm was going when we got to the school. The fire department arrived in full gear, and axes in hand. Collin kept tapping me on the arm asking, "Did you see the ax?" After the service we found out an art teacher had left the kiln on. Oh the joys of being portable.
  • We had 2 families attend for the first time.
  • A family came for membership.
  • After the service I had someone else ask how to become a member.
  • Made a big announcement about a possible new meeting location - more about that next week.
  • We had our largest attendance since launch. When I got up to preach the crowd was significantly larger than when we started singing. I loved it.
  • The music was awesome. Dustin skipped a verse and after the song ended we started the song again and sang the verse. It may sound embarrassing but it was actually funny and it really helped break the ice.
  • Collin went with me to help set up so Marnie could have a little more relaxing morning on Mother's Day.
  • We just had a blast.

Life Groups Start Tomorrow

Last Wednesday was our last Launch Team Meeting. The launch team has officially dissolved and Life Groups will begin tomorrow night. Life Groups are our small Bible studies that will meet in homes. They last around 45 minutes. These groups will meet weekly for 12 weeks. I'm really excited about what this is going to mean for our church.

This Weekend

Lifepoint had a great weekend.

Saturday the parade went well. We passed out lots of invite cards and candy. A couple funny things happened during the parade. There were so many people on the sides of the street at places our people walking beside the float giving out candy were getting behind. I looked back and heard Jimmy (Worship Pastor) say he was getting left behind. Then I heard a kid in the crowd yell, "You're gonna to have to run." This is funny because if you know Jimmy he is constantly messing with people. I found it humorous that he was being heckled from the crowd.

We also made some great contacts at the Art and Home show held at the Owasso Mid-High. While we were there I did an interview on a local radio station talking about Lifepoint. There is a video at the end of this post of that interview. The audio isn't very good but you get the idea. If you would like to see pictures from the events during the Trail Days Festival you can see them here.

I checked out Lifepoint's website and we've had several new hits from people in Owasso and I had one person call and ask about Lifepoint Sunday afternoon.

Sunday we continued our teaching series entitled Core. This weeks sermon was on transformation - Romans 12:1-2. We had one family of three come for the first-time. We had some more volunteers jump in and help out as we packed everything into the trailer after the service. One other bonus was one of the janitors came in and listened to the sermon.

Trail Days

Owasso celebrates an annual Trail Days Festival during the first weekend in May. There are several events in which Lifepoint will participate. These will be great opportunities to serve and connect with our community. Tomorrow we will be a marathon outreach day. Here is what will be going on:

Parade
In the morning there is a "Trail Days" Parade on Main Street at 9:00 a.m. We will meet on Main between 3rd and 4th street at 8:30 a.m. The plan is to put all the kids (and some parents) on a float/trailer. We will be passing out candy and invite cards.

Art & Home Show
There will be a multitude of events that will happen in the Owasso Mid-High (face painting, fire prevention, pet show, Little Miss and Mister Owasso contest, etc). We have a booth reserved there from 9am- 4pm and will be giving out balloons and water bottles.

Radio

Lifepoint has a couple commercials that will run tomorrow on KYFM 100.1. They will do a couple on air interviews (scary) and mention Lifepoint 30 times throughout the day. This should be fun. They are broadcasting at the Owasso Mid-high. Looking forward to seeing how this all turns out.
