My Way Is NOT Just As Good

I have spent many hours with Jonah this week. As I look over the decision Jonah made in verse 3 of chapter one, I wonder, "Jonah what were you thinking." But of course I know what happens in verse 17. I don't get to know everything that he was thinking but I bet he was thinking what I think when I disobey God. My way is just as good.

When God asks me to do something I don't want to do. When he leads me in a way I don't want to follow. When I'm lazy, disobedient, or rebellious. It comes down to the fact that on some level I believe my way is just as good. When I evaluate whatever the situation if I choose to go my own way I have to say at some level, "this will still work out just fine." If there is anything I need to take away from Jonah chapter one it is that my way is not just as good. Tarshish is not Nineveh. Partial or delayed obedience will never be just as good.
