Sunday In Review

We finished up our teaching series on 1 John. Here is a summary of the day.

  • Preached about "What We Know"
  • In 1 John 5:14-21 the word "know" is used 6 times.
  • How great is it that God made sure we know about salvation and how to honor Him with our life.
  • The last part of 1 John 5:19 is sad. The whole world is stretched out, wrapped up, and comfortable in evil.
  • Because 1 John 5:19 is so sad 1 John 5:20 is such good news. It tells us that Jesus came to earth. He is the true God and in Him is eternal life.
  • Here is the sermon if you missed it.
  • Thankful we have volunteers that are flexible and fill in wherever there is a need--thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
  • It's been a long time since I've seen Jimmy lead music by himself. He did a great job.
  • The newest Lifepointer who was born last Sunday was in the service - James Elijah Hammond (Eli).
  • We sang the song "Days Of Elijah" during the offering...coincidence...I don't think so.
  • The Lifepoint sign is in my garage. It is getting a makeover this week.

Sunday In Review

I was at Landmark Baptist Church in Tahlequah Sunday. Things were all setup to run smooth at Lifepoint but even when you have a plan you have to be ready to call another play.

  • Our worship pastor (Jimmy Hammond) was scheduled to preach on Sunday. It is important to mention his wife is/was pregnant and going to deliver a baby in a couple weeks. Well.....the baby came early Sunday morning. Jimmy called me after 1:00 a.m. letting me know there was a baby on the way. The baby made his entrance around 6:00 a.m. I called Brian Crockett at 7:15 a.m. to let him know we needed him to preach.
  • In all the excitement Sunday morning when leaving Owasso I realized I had left my Bible. I turned around saw the family one more time and then I was off.
  • Marnie called to ask me about the video card for the camera that records the service. Yeah that was with me in my backpack.
  • I heard everything went well at Lifepoint. Thanks everyone - especially Brian for being ready to go.
  • I had a great time with Landmark Baptist Church in Tahlequah. I really enjoyed being with the pastor and his family. I have been to this church before and they are always encouraging.
  • One surprise was a college student from NSU who is dating one of the guys at Lifepoint came over just because she knew I was preaching. That was really nice.

Bible Study Conversations

I've been thinking about some conversations during our Bible study last night concerning 1 John 5:13. What should this verse mean to EVERY CHRISTIAN?

  • It should affect our priorities - Nothing is more important than having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • It should affect our confidence - We have assurance. We don't have to guess about what is going to happen at the end of this life (1 John 4:17). If we know we have new life in Christ. It will change the life we live here and now.
  • It should affect our urgency - If we know there is a day coming when each person will give account of their life to God (Hebrews 9:27). If every person is going to spend eternity with Christ in heaven or separated from Christ in hell. There should be a sense of urgency when it comes to sharing the message of God's love (John 3:16).

Sunday In Review

Here are some thoughts from Sunday.

  • I preached 1 John 5:11-13 in our 1 John sermon series.
  • Framed the verses in the form of questions.
  • There is a popular wrong idea out there that we go to heaven by being good.
  • The Bible says over and over we aren't good, and we aren't okay - Romans 3:10, Ecclesiastes 7:20, Ephesians 2:1
  • It is not enough to try and turn over a new leaf or to clean up our act. If we just need to try harder, and do better there would have been no reason for Jesus to die on the cross. He just needed to come give us a pep talk.
  • We need Jesus. Without Jesus there is no eternal life.
  • If you know you must trust Christ as Savior why would you wait. What is keeping you from turning to God?
  • 1 John 5 explains the importance of salvation several times - 1 John 5:1, 5:5, 11-13, 5:20
  • Here is the sermon if you missed it.
  • We had several first-time and second-time guests. I love it.
  • I really enjoyed the music. The song selection was great!!
  • I'm so thankful for the team that leads our music.
  • Had a staff meeting Sunday night - trying to get organized.
